Corn Bunting sitting at the top of a tree singing. A corn bunting (Emberiza calandra) is a stocky, brownish-gray bird with streaked plumage, often blending into its grassy or agricultural surroundings. It has a thick, conical bill and a slightly larger head relative to its body. The bird’s song is a distinctive, jangling "metallic rattle" sound, often delivered from a perch like a fence post or wire. Corn buntings are commonly seen in open farmland, particularly in fields of grain, where they feed on seeds and insects.

Big Chalk Conversations — new dates now open

After last week’s red weather alert, we’ve rescheduled two Big Chalk Conversations and reopened bookings for:

Moreton-in-Marsh will be opening soon — we’ll share details shortly.

Big Chalk Conversations are where this next phase of Big Chalk is being shaped — bringing together the people already working across chalk and limestone landscapes to deliver nature's recovery at scale.

These are practical, focused workshops. Not presentations, but working conversations about what it will really take to connect action, strengthen collaboration, and turn shared ambition into delivery on the ground.

If you were planning to join us last week, we really hope you’ll be able to make one of these new dates. And if you haven’t booked yet, this is a great moment to step in and be part of it.

Book your place and help shape what comes next.
