Big Chalk follows the chalk into Norfolk: our partnership just got bigger!

On World Soil Day, we're excited to announce that Norfolk is now officially part of the Big Chalk geography! This significant expansion brings us one step closer to our vision of nature-rich chalk and limestone landscapes that benefit all of us.

As we celebrate the vital role of soil in shaping our chalk and limestone landscapes and unique ecosystems, this is the perfect moment to highlight the importance of calcareous soils in defining Big Chalk’s geography. Thanks to extensive consultation, we've identified the right areas on which to focus our partnership's combined efforts, building a dynamic, continuous nature recovery network across 20% of England.

The west of Norfolk is defined by its chalk, which contributes to the unique geology and habitats of the Brecks, with its rare grasslands, heathlands, and internationally important biodiversity. This strengthens our collective ability to restore nature at the scale nature needs.
