Following an incredible response to our one-year pilot, the Big Chalk Nature Recovery Fund is moving into its next phase. Last year, funding was fully allocated within months, supporting 23 projects across chalk and limestone landscapes — a clear signal of both the need and the ambition to deliver nature recovery at scale. The good news? The Big Chalk Nature Recovery Fund is continuing, with a stronger focus on delivering against 30x30 ambitions across the Big Chalk landscape.
Right now, we’re working hard behind the scenes to refine the criteria and improve the application process, shaping what comes next. Our focus is on building on that momentum — strengthening the approach, growing the impact, and preparing for the earliest possible reopening of the Fund from mid-June.
We’re not quite there yet, but the direction is clear: more joined-up action, more locally led solutions, and more capital investment where it can make the biggest difference for nature, climate and people.
